Weltin career best 10th overall at Redbud

Team Twisted Tea/ H.E.P. Suzuki presented by Progressive Insurance had a productive 5th round of the 2022 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Outdoor National Championship series. The Redbud National lived up to its reputation; the atmosphere was all time, with the hillsides and fence lines filled with fans, friends, and families. Marshal Weltin led the way for the team with 10th overall. Brandon Hartranft was right behind him with 13th overall.

Brandon Hartranft #41: Consistent day for the 23-year-old. Despite struggling in practice and qualifying, Hartranft was resilient in his effort and did not give up. Both motos Brandon got decent starts. His best race came in the first moto, running as high as 10th before arm pump got the better of him causing him to drop back. He finished the day 13th overall going 13-13 in two motos.

“Redbud was tough for me,” said Brandon Hartranft. “I struggled in qualifying. Moto 1 I got a decent start, and I was around 10th, but then my arm started to pump up badly I dropped back to 15th. I was able to regroup and move up a few positions before it was over. The second moto, I rode much better, we made a suspension change that helped. I ended up with another 13th going 13-13 for 13th overall. Definitely not happy with the results but we must take the positives out of it and move forward to round 6 at Southwick.”

Marshal Weltin #285:  Close as it gets to a home race for Marshal Weltin; growing up only 4 hours away from Redbud. Racing in front of family and friends, Marshal had his personal best finish in the outdoor nationals with 10th overall. Weltin got a strong start both motos. His best race came in the first moto with 10th place. He carried that momentum into the next moto with 12th place. He finished 10th overall in the 450cc premier class going 10-12 in 2 motos.

“Redbud overall was a pretty cool weekend for me,” said Marshal Weltin. “It’s my home race being from Michigan, and I really felt it with my friends and family around. The day started off rocky in qualifying but when that gate dropped my instincts kicked in. I had my personal best finish in the first moto with 10th place and then 12th in the second moto. I ended up with 10th overall, I am stoked with the results. It’s always a lot of fun racing at Redbud.”

“Good day for the team at Redbud,” said Dustin Pipes. “Such an awesome event, the atmosphere, the fans, it can’t be beat. Our guys were being cheered on all day and it was great to be a part of. Marshall cracking the top 10 was great to see, his progression in just a few short weeks has been great. I’m hoping to see more of the same to round out the series. Brandon is still finding his stride and we plan to help him get there. He is not placing where the team or he expects, and we are going to work to fix that.”

The 2022 Outdoor Nationals head to Southwick, Massachusetts for the 6th round of the 2022 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Outdoor Championship Series. Practice/qualifying starts at 10:00 AM EST and racing starts at 1:30 PM EST.
