Hymas Seventh Overall at Birmingham 250SX East Triple Crown

  • Idaho native posts 6-10-6 results in the three 250SX East races

Honda HRC Progressive and Honda’s satellite teams took to the track this weekend for round 10 of AMA Supercross in Birmingham, Alabama, which hosted the season’s final Triple Crown event. Riders tackled three intense races per class, and Chance Hymas turned in 6-10-6 results in the 250SX East division. Meanwhile, other Red Riders delivered respectable finishes throughout the night.

Hymas got a good jump off the gate in 250SX East race 1 and avoided an early pileup, running in fifth for most of the race, with a late mistake dropping him to sixth. He finished 10th in race 2 but improved in the final outing, crossing the line in sixth to secure an overall result of seventh. Phoenix Racing Honda’s Cullin Park finished eighth overall, while Quad Lock Honda Racing’s Carson Mumford placed 11th. Storm Lake Honda Buddy Brooks Racing’s Henry Miller finished 12th overall, and SPR’s Lance Kobusch ended up 15th. Neese Racing-backed privateer Luke Neese was 16th.

With Honda HRC Progressive’s Jett and Hunter Lawrence sidelined, Honda’s 450SX efforts were again led by the satellite teams. Quad Lock Honda Racing’s Shane McElrath went 8-12-9, finishing eighth overall, while Phoenix Racing Honda’s Dylan Ferrandis had 9-22-10 finishes, securing 13th overall.

NOTES

  • Although Jett and Hunter Lawrence remain sidelined as they recover from surgeries, both brothers were on hand in Birmingham, interacting with fans, signing autographs, and supporting the team.
  • Xtreme Powersports Opelika, a popular Powerhouse dealer in Opelika, Alabama, set up a pop-up activation booth in the Honda HRC Progressive pits, where they displayed a CRF450R and a CRF110F, and engaged with fans and customers.
  • Spencer East, a local bike builder and fabricator, displayed a Honda Z50 that mimicked the look of Honda’s 1980s factory motocrossers, along with an original Honda Motocompo.
  • In combined 250SX East qualifying times, Chance Hymas was eighth aboard his CRF250RWE, securing a spot in the evening program. Other Honda riders who qualified directly included Quad Lock Honda Racing’s Carson Mumford (third), Phoenix Racing Honda’s Cullin Park (ninth), Storm Lake Honda Buddy Brooks Racing’s Henry Miller (13th), TiLube Honda’s Trevor Colip (14th), Phoenix Racing Honda’s Nicholas Romano (16th), and SPR’s Lance Kobusch (17th). • Another guests of the team at Birmingham was Ashton Yates, who competes in the MotoAmerica road racing series for the Jones Honda Racing team. Yates, who was the 2024 MotoAmerica Superbike Cup winner, will campaign both the Superbike and Stock 1000 classes this year aboard a CBR1000RR-R Fireblade SP.
  • Country-music star Bailey Zimmerman was an enthusiastic attendee of the Birmingham event. Zimmerman, who has had two hits reach number one on the Billboard charts, enjoyed dinner with the Lawrence brothers the night before the race and spent time in the Honda HRC Progressive pits, including taking a private truck tour with team manager Lars Lindstrom.
  • Next up, the series resumes with round 11 in Seattle, where Honda HRC Progressive’s Jo Shimoda returns to 250SX West competition.

“Birmingham this weekend wasn’t a great result on my end. I need to figure some things out, but I’m trying to take away the positives. I struggled a bit with my starts–they were inconsistent. We’ll regroup, have next weekend off, get some outdoor riding in, and come out stronger for Foxborough."

“It was nice to race here in Birmingham with great weather and see what the actual dirt was really like compared to last year’s mud race. We definitely need to keep working on our bike and our rider so that we can keep climbing the ladder to the top. It was really cool having so many American Honda associates from Alpharetta here. With the unique pit layout, we enjoyed giving them some Southern hospitality.”
